Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy based on scientific evidence designed to help people manage their problems by changing the way they think and behave. Numerous research studies suggest that CBT leads to significant improvement in functioning and quality of life. It aims to encourage you to become more aware of negative thoughts and of the behavioural patterns which might reinforce some of your unhelpful thinking. It can help with a wide variety of issues and difficulties.

CBT is a time-limited therapy with weekly sessions of 50 minutes each. It is designed to generate significant results within 12 to 24 sessions. If necessary, long-term therapy (more than 24 sessions) is also possible. Before undertaking any therapy, we meet for trial sessions to talk about your specific problems and to set the goals we want to work towards. When both the problems and goals have been clarified, I will start planning the content of sessions and explore how to deal with the problems. These discussions take place throughout the process to ensure all issues are covered. Itis also worth noting that with CBT tasks and actions outside the sessions can be identified if helpful.

In Germany, the costs for psychotherapy are covered by your private or public health insurance (’gesetzliche Krankenversicherung’). A referral is not required, your electronic insurance card is sufficient. For information on costs for the additional expense for English-language therapy, feel free to contact me. I am happy to answer any questions you might have about accessing therapy in Germany.
